So my dad calls me the other day.
My folks generally know that I work for an 'internet' company but they have no idea how the business works. When family friends ask what I do, they usually say "he makes internets." While i'm sure my parent's friends imagine me with a utility belt installing ethernet cords for time warner, my parents are vaguely understanding of what I do.
That being said, my conversation went like this with my dad.
Dad: Hey Chris
Me: Yup?
Dad: Do you know that website youtor?
Me: Youtor?
Dad: Yes, Youtor.
Me: *pauses and whips out engrish to english dictionary* Oh - Youtube!
Dad: Yes, that's what I said, Youtor.
Me: yeah, sure I know that site - the video website.
Dad: Yes - those guys that made it. You know them?
Me: I read about them in articles - yeah, but I don't know them personally.
Dad: You know they made a lot of money yes?
Me: Uh - yeah, Google bought them and they made a lot of money yeah.
Dad: Ok. You make a youtube too. ok?
Me: ......
Dad: Ok? Make a youtube
Me: Sure Dad, i'll make a youtube.
Dad: Ok bye.
